Wildfires and climate change are interconnected. While climate change plays a significant role in influencing wildfire frequency, intensity, and behavior, wildfires also contribute to the emission of greenhouse gasses and other pollutants that can impact climate change.
In the short term, wildfires can pose immediate threats to human safety, destroy homes and infrastructure, and lose wildlife and livestock. The smoke and ash produced by wildfires can also adversely affect the health of people, animals and plants, the reliability of the power grid, and the output of the PV panels.
Over the long term, wildfires play a complex role in the ecosystem. They can help maintain the health of the ecosystem by clearing vegetation, promoting the regeneration of plants, and releasing nutrients back into the soil. However, severe wildfires can lead to atmospheric change, ecological imbalances, loss of biodiversity, and soil erosion.
Minimizing the negative impacts of wildfires is crucial for sustainable development. This presentation discusses possible technologies for wildfire management including fire prevention, detection, behavior prediction, intervention, mitigation, and control.
